RNC Welcoming Committee

The Wedge is Older than the Wheel

Does so-called assistant police chief Bostrom think these towns are full of suckers?! Bostrom and Jole Kramer’s capitalist MinnPost might think they can seed infighting amongst those of us planning to resist the RNC in 2008 but they didn’t count on the fact that, believe it or not, different groups organizing around the RNC actually communicate.

That’s right, we Anarchists and Anti-Authoritarians of the RNC Welcoming Committee (www.nornc.org) actually talk to, email, and sip cups of coffee with other organizing groups. We, as individuals, have worked with members of The Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War during anti-war protests, workers’ strikes, and other local campaigns. We frequent many of the same coffee shops attend some of the same speaking events. We have a history of egalitarian collaboration and have, through years of working together, developed a trust and respect that is impervious to the state’s efforts to divide and conquer.

Turning those most ripe for rebellion against each other is a favorite tactic of States. Colonists in Ireland turned Protestants against Catholics. In India they divided Muslims and Hindus and in Miami they divided Anarchists, organized labor, and progressive peace activists. The Aug. 31st critical mass showed us all who brings the violence to the streets, as the police tased, maced, and beat peacefully assembled cyclists and tried to blame it on outside radical agitation.

We will continue to stand in solidarity with our allies preparing all forms of RNC resistance. We further encourage our radically identified brothers, sisters, and others to join us in our extension of solidarity. We know the state lies. We know the media lies. Let us not allow them to drive wedges between us. We are the people and we will not be intimidated.
